Quick trip to the USA...and great weather!

I have the day off today and I had Saturday off as well. I was so happy because I needed a good sleep in. I worked Thursday and Friday afternoon as well as Sunday (yesterday) afternoon which is from 3.00pm until 11.00pm, but by the time I get home, have a shower and go to bed it’s nearly midnight. When I took these 2 afternoon shifts I didn’t realize that I accepted a morning shift (from 7.00am until 3.00pm) a while back for Saturday. I didn’t notice it u I looked at my schedule a few days ago. I tried to get off work Friday afternoon but there was nobody who wanted to cover for me and I would have to go to work anyway…darn. But then our scheduling lady offered to cover my shift for Saturday morning, thank god one of us is thinking. And thankfully she was able to fill my shift and I was off on Saturday. Nothing much happening that day, the weather was warm (around 85 F) and sunny. It was a little cloudy this morning, but now it’s all clear blue sky again. We just went for a walk around here as Michael has been on the roof most of the day.

Vandaag heb ik een dagje vrij en zaterdag had ik ook een dagje vrij. Ik was zo blij dat ik wat heb kunnen uitslapen. Ik heb donderdag en vrijdag alsook zondag (gisteren) de namiddag gewerkt van 15u tot 23u, maar tegen dat ik thuis ben, een douche genomen heb en in bed lig is het toch bijna middernacht. Toen ik deze 2 namiddag posten aangenomen heb, realiseerde ik me niet dat ik een tijd terug de morgen post (van 7u tot 15u) had aangenomen voor zaterdag morgen. Ik had het niet door totdat ik een paar dagen terug naar mijn agenda keek. Ik heb dan geprobeerd om vrijdag namiddag vrij te krijgen, maar niemand wilde werken dus moest ik toch gaan...dorie. Maar toen zei de dame die de diensten moet vullen dat ze wel kon proberen om mijn zaterdag morgen aan iemand anders te geven, god zij dank dat ze dat voorstelde. Gelukkig was er iemand die voor mij wilde werken en had ik zaterdag een vrije dag. We hebben niets speciaals gedaan, het was lekker warm (rond de 29 graden) en zonnig. We zijn enkel hier in de buurt wat gaan wandelen want Michael is nog bezig geweest op het dak voor een groot deel van de zaterdag.

On Thursday Michael saw online that his roof coating was delivered in Blaine at the UPS store (some type of postal service) in the USA and of course he wanted to go pick it up before the weekend so he could continue with the roof. And of course I would like to go to the States as well, as it’s a good excuse to do a little extra shopping…hehehe. We decided to go to the USA Friday morning, but Fridays are usually busy at the border crossings so we figured we better get up early enough. We got up at 6.45am on Friday morning…I was a little tired as I worked until 11.00pm the day before and I had to work again that Friday afternoon from 3.00pm until 11.00pm. At least I would be off on Saturday.

We left home around 7.30am, got to the Peace Arch border crossing around 7.55am. We heard on the radio that there was a 45 minute line up already…pfff. But when we got there, they opened another booth and it took us about 15-20 minutes to get through the border. The UPS store didn’t open up until 9.00am, so we decided to drive down to Birch Bay State Park http://www.experiencewa.com/attraction.aspx?id=1485 to kill some time. We walked there for a little bit and I took some photos. At 9.00am we went to the UPS store and picked up the roof coating. After that we drove to Bellingham where we arrived around 9.40am to do some shopping. We bought some groceries and I bought a couple more uniform pants. By 11.15am we were back on the road to Canadian boarder where waits were minimal and by noon (12.00pm) we were at home again.

Op donderdag zag Michael online dat zijn dak material aangekomen was in Blaine bij de UPS store (dat is een soort post service) in Amerika en natuurlijk zou hij die graag willen gaan ophalen voor het weekend zodat hij verder kan gaan met zijn dakwerken. En natuurlijk zou ik ook graag mee willen, want dat is een goed excuus wat extra te shoppen...hehehe. We besloten dan om vrijdag voormiddag te gaan, maar we zouden dan vroeg genoeg moeten opstaand omdat het ’s vrijdags al vlug drukker kan zijn aan de grens.

We zijn om 6u45 opgestaan, ik was wel wat moe want ik heb de dag ervoor gewerkt tot 23u en ik moest die vrijdag namiddag ook nog werken van 15u tot 23u. Maar gelukkig zou ik zaterdag vrij hebben. We vertrokken hier om 7u30 ’s morgens en rond 7u55 waren we aan de Peace Arch grens oversteek. We hadden op de radio gehoord dat het 45 minuten aanschuiven was om over de grens te geraken, maar gelukkig hadden ze nog een locket geopend tegen dat wij daar aankwamen. Op een 15-20 minuten waren we over de grens en in Blaine. Die UPS store zou pas om 9u open gaan, dus we zijn dan even naar Birch Bay State Park gereden om wat tijd te verdrijven. We hebben daar wat gewandeld en ik heb er wat foto’s genomen. Om 9u zijn we dan naar de UPS store gereden om dat dak materiaal op te halen. Daarna zijn we richting Bellingham gereden om wat te shoppen en tegen 9u40 waren we daar. Rond 11u15 waren we klaar en zijn we terug vertrokken richting de Canadese grens en rond de middag (12u) waren we weer thuis.
