Update on my mom & Eurofest 2009

Lets start off with the good news...my mom is okay now and is back from the hospital. I talked to her the morning after she went to the hospital and it looks like they were going to break up the kidney stones with a laser. On Sunday morning I phoned my mom at home and she was back already and she had no more pain. She felt good after she left the hospital and was even able to join the family for my grandma's 90th Birthday dinner. I am happy all is well and my mom is better...that was just a bit of a scare!

Yesterday (Monday) was my last day at my current job, it was kind of an emotional shift as I had been there for over 4 years and many of these people have almost become part of my family. I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the wife of one of my residents. That was sooo nice and it's such a beautiful basket...Thank you!!!! One of my co-workers also gave me a small plant, which was really sweet. For now I will stay on the on call list to fill in when someone calls in sick or takes holidays. In the mean time they already offered me to go to Golden Ears Seniors Village in Maple Ridge for a few shifts this month as it's the same company that I work for already. They have about 18 twelve hour shifts available for registered nurses until July 4. So I think I might go for a few while I decide what I want to do next.

Laat ons beginnen met het goede nieuws...mijn mama is oke en is weer thuis van het ziekenhuis. Ik heb met haar gebeld de morgen nadat ze opgenomen was in het ziekenhuis en ze zei dat ze haar nierstenen gingen verbrijzelen. Op zondag morgen heb ik ook met haar gebeld en ze was alweer thuis en had geen pijn meer. Ze voelde zich goed nadat ze terug was van het ziekenhuis en is die namiddag nog naar het familie diner geweest voor mijn bomma haar 90ste verjaardag. Ik ben blij dat alles weer in orde is...dat was toch even schrikken!

Gisteren (maandag) was het mijn laatste werkdag, het was een beetje een emotionele dienst omdat ik hier toch al meer dan 4 jaar werk en vele van die mensen zijn zo wat familie geworden. Ik had een prachtig bloemstuk gekregen van de vrouw van 1 van de bewoners, dat was zo lief en zo'n mooi bloemstuk...Dank U!!! Een van mijn collega's had me ook een mooi plantje gegeven, dat was heel lief van haar. Ik blijf voorlopig wel nog op de "on call lijst" om in te vallen als iemand zich ziek meldt of als iemand op vakantie wil gaan. Ze hebben me ook aangeboden om bij Golden Ears Seniors Village in Maple Ridge te gaan werken voor een deel diensten omdat het van dezelfde eigenaars is. Ze hebben zo'n 18 twaalf uren diensten ter beschikking voor registered nurses tot en met 4 juli. Dus ik denk wel dat ik er daar een paar van doe totdat ik besloten heb wat ik wil gaan doen.

On Saturday we went to Eurofest in Burnaby. This is a European festival with many countries performing in their uniforms while folk dancing and singing. There was information on all the different participating European countries and each had a food booth where you could go and taste their specialties. Of course Belgium was there as well and we had some yummy "Luikse Waffles", these are hot sugar waffles. And they also had samples of Belgian chocolates to try and for sale. We took about 8 "Luikse Waffles" home and also a bunch of German pretzels. I also enjoyed a couple of "bitterballen" at the food stand of The Netherlands. These bitterballen are a meat-based snack, typically containing a mixture of beef (minced or chopped), beef broth, flour and butter for thickening, parsley, salt and pepper and this rolled up like a little ball. This gets covered with bread crums then it's best to cook it in the deepfryer.. They were delicious. They were also selling "poffertje", these look like mini pancakes and they sprinkle some icing sugar on top of it. There is a store the Vancouver area where you can buy these yummy waffles and another one where you can buy the delicious chocolate. We had a good time.

Op zaterdag waren naar het Eurofest geweest in Burnaby. Dit is een Europees festival met verschillende landen die optraden in hun klederdracht en zongen. Er was informatie te vinden over de verschillende landen die deelnamen en elk land had ook een kraampje met voeding waar je de specialiteiten van elk land kon gaan proeven. Natuurlijk was Belgie er ook bij en daar hebben we een heerlijke warme "Luikse Wafel" gegeten. Je kon er ook wat chocolade proeven, ze gaven wat gratis reepjes uit en je kon ook chocolade kopen natuurlijk. We hadden 8 "Luikse Wafels" mee naar huis genomen alsook een deel Duitse pretzels. Ik heb ook genoten van een paar lekkere bitterballen die ik bij het Nederlandse kraampje had gekocht...ze waren heerlijk. Ze hadden er ook "poffertjes" wat precies mini pannekoeken zijn met wat suikerbloem erover heen. Er is ook een winkel in de omgeving van Vancouver waar je die lekkere wafels kan kopen en ook er is ook een winkel waar je de heerlijke chocolade kan kopen.

Today I have booked our stay for this summer at the Mountain View Lodge near Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State, USA. We are staying for 4 nights in a room with a king bed, a small kitchen, TV and private bathroom. I hope we get to see the colourful wildflowers during the time we will be there. I have seen such beautiful photos of it!

Vandaag heb ik ook ons verblijf geboekt voor deze zomer bij de Mountain View Lodge in de buurt van Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State, USA. We gaan daar 4 nachten verblijven in een kamer met een king bed, een kleine keuken, TV en prive badkamer. Ik hoop dat we de kans krijgen om de kleurrijke wilde bloemen te zien tijdens de periode dat we daar zijn. Ik heb er zo'n mooie foto's van gezien!
