A night out...December 27

Today (Dec. 27) we woke up by the noise of the snow sliding off our roof, it must have been warming up a little. We have an aluminum roof and when it warms up a little all the snow just slides off, it sounds like an avalanche half the time. While the snow slid off the roof with a roaring thunder it took out our awning in the back of our house. That was too bad, but we were planning on taking it down anyway this summer as it's quite old and we want to put something new there. So, Michael spent quite some time trying to take it all apart as half of it was still attached to the house. I did some studying as I was off and want to be prepared for my exam. We were also planning to take Ineke & Sandor (our Dutch friends that live here for a year) out for dinner as it's been way too long since we have met up again. We weren't too sure if we were going to be able to get out of our back alley as I saw a few cars trying and they weren't going anywhere. We thought we'd wait it out for awhile and I would phone Ineke sometime in the afternoon to see what we were going to do.

Vandaag (27 dec) warden wakker door het grote lawaai van de sneeuw wat van ons dak afviel, het is wat aan het opwarmen. We hebben een alluminium dak en als het wat opwarmt dan schuift de sneeuw er zo vanaf, meestal klinkt het alsof er een lawine naar beneden komt. Ons afdakje aan de achterkant van ons huis werd zo mee naar beneden gedonderd terwijl de sneeuw van het dak afschoof. Dat was wel jammer, maar we waren toch van plan om dit te vervangen deze zomer en er een gezellig terras van te maken. Dit afdak is vrij oud en heeft al veel doorstaan in weer en wind. Dus Michael heeft heel wat tijd doorgebracht om dit afdak uitmekaar te halen omdat het nog half aan ons huis vasthing. Ik heb dan wat gestudeert want ik wil me toch goed voorbereiden voor mijn examen. We waren ook van plan om samen met Ineke en Sandor (onze Nederlandse vrienden die hier voor 1 jaar wonen) uit te gaan eten want het is weer veel te lang gelden dat we dat nog eens gedaan hebben. We waren niet zeker of we uit ons achterstraatje gingen geraken, we hadden paar auto’s zien voorbij rijden die er niet door geraakten. Dus we gingen wachten tot later in de dag en ik zou Ineke dan in de namiddag wel even bellen om te zien wat we gingen doen.

When I called Ineke in the afternoon she suggested that they would pick us up and bring us back home. Well, that would be great if they would do that as we still can’t get out of our back alley. They came to pick us up at around 6.30pm and we were going to Red Robin in Burnaby. We all had a yummy hamburger, which was so tasty. This restaurant has the best hamburgers. We had a nice chat and then Michael ask if they felt like going to a movie later? We have some cheap tickets, so Michael brought 4 tickets in case.

Toen ik Ineke belde in de namiddag stelde ze voor dat ze ons konden komen ophalen en terug brengen. Wel, dat vonden wij geweldig als ze dat konden doen want wij konden nog steeds niet uit ons achterstraatje. Ze waren bij ons thuis om 18u30 en we zijn dan naar Red Robin geweest in Burnaby. We hadden allemaal een lekker hamburger, die was echt zo heerlijk. Dit restaurant heeft de beste hamburgers. We hebben gezellig kunnen bijpraten en Michael had hun ook nog gevraagd of ze zin hadden in een film? We hebben goedkope film tickets, dus Michael had er 4 meegebracht in geval van.

They seemed to be interested in going, so they invited us to their place for a bit as it was too early to go to the movies. It was so nice to see the doggies again and finally Michael got to meet the doggies too. Pink has found a new play partner in Michael who kept her busy the whole time we were there…haha

Ze leken geinteresseerd om naar de film te gaan, dus we waren uitgenodigt om mee naar hun thuis te gaan omdat het nog te vroeg was voor de film. Het was fijn om de hondjes weer eens terug te zien en nu kon Michael de hondjes eindelijk ook eens ontmoeten. Pink had al vlug een speel kameraad gevonden in Michael die haar goed bezig hield terwijl we daar waren...haha

We were going to see Yes Man with Jim Carrey and this movie was going to start at 9.45pm. We left their place around 9.00pm and once we got to the theatres we still had a good spot to sit. The movie was quite good and typical funny Jim Carrey, I really enjoyed it and a good laugh. We got home around 11.30pm after a wonderful evening. I am sure we will do this again sometime in the future.

We gingen naar Yes Man kijken met Jim Carrey en deze film begon om 21u45. We vertrokken bij hun thuis rond 21u en tegen dat we in de filmzaal waren was er nog een degelijke plaats om te zitten. De film was vrij goed en een typische Jim Carrey film, ik heb er van genoten en hartelijk kunnen lachen. We waren thuis rond 23u30 na een gezellige avond. Ik ben er zeker van dat we dit nog wel eens zullen doen in de toekomst.
